Board-certified urologist with more than 20 years' experience and a focus on minimally invasive, office-based stone care.
Dr. David Shusterman is a board-certified urologist who has cared for patients in the New York area for more than two decades. He earned his medical degree from Stony Brook University (Renaissance School of Medicine, SUNY Stony Brook) and completed his residency in urology and general surgery at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital / Rutgers in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where he served as Chief Resident in 2006. His training and clinical experience also spans the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Chicago Medicine, and the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
He is board certified by the American Board of Urology and a member of the American Urological Association. Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Shusterman teaches urology to residents and physicians-in-training, contributes articles to the medical literature, and is frequently sought out for expert commentary on urologic health.
His clinical interests center on kidney stones, prostate health, and minimally invasive urology — with a particular emphasis on bringing same-day diagnostics and office-based treatment to patients who would otherwise face long hospital waits.
Much of stone care has drifted toward the operating room. Dr. Shusterman built this practice around a different premise: that for a large share of stones, the least-invasive option — treated promptly, in a calm office setting, usually without general anesthesia and usually without a stent — is the care patients actually deserve. On-site imaging means diagnosis and planning happen the same day rather than across multiple visits, so treatment can begin quickly.
That approach is paired with honesty about its limits: not every stone is right for shockwave lithotripsy, and when another approach or a hospital-based procedure is the better call, patients are told directly and coordinated to the right care.
NY Litho is part of the urology practice of David Shusterman, MD (Advanced Physicians, P.C.), serving patients across all five boroughs of New York City, Long Island, and New Jersey, with locations in Midtown East Manhattan and Forest Hills, Queens.
